The famous monastery hangs on the cliff, towering above the valley on 700 m. Almost totally Burned in 1998, the Paro Taktsang monastery now is restored and open for pilgrims

Tourism in Bhutan. The famous Paro Taktsang Monastery is hanging on the cliff (at an altitude of 3120 m), towering above the valley of Paro at 700 m. The name is translated as "tigress nest” - according to a legend, Padmasambhava was transported to the monastery cave, sitting on a tigress back. This is the place, where Milarepa meditated and Shabdrung often visited. In 1998, the monastery was almost completely burned, several monks were killed, but in a short time the monastery was now restored and now it is open for pilgrims.
