Activities in Bhutan. The Kingdom of Bhutan is located in South Asia, its territory stretches for 300 km along the southern slopes of the Himalayas. It shares borders with China and India. The capital is Thimphu. Local people call Bhutan “the country of Roaring Dragon”. It has always been a quiet a quiet refuge for adherents of Buddhism. Dzongs - huge monastery-fortresses, built on inaccessible cliffs and able to accommodate several thousand people, are typical for this country. Eventually, settlements were built around dzongs, among them is the capital, where now one can see Tashichho Dzog royal residence, Chhorten Memorial, the palace of a Great Lama, Simtoha Dzog Theological Academy, the National Library and Art School.City of Paro - the gates of the country, there is an airport, the National Museum of Ta Dzong, large monasteries of Zuriг Dzong, Paro Taktsang Dzong and Lahang Druk-Yul Dzong fortress, etc. All monasteries store samples of amazing "tanka"painting. Paro Taktsang Dzong Monastery (which means “Tiger's Lair”), founded by Guru Rimpoche in the VIII th century is one of the major Buddhist shrines of the kingdom. In the ancient capital of Bhutan, Punakha, there are also several large monasteries: Punakha Dzong, Dzongchang, Vangdiphodrang. These monasteries are the major centers of spiritual and cultural life of Bhutan even today. There are about 200 monasteries in the kingdom, where some 5,000 nuns and monks live. Numerous weapon, jewelry and art markets are very popular among tourists in this country, as well as the Southern slopes of the Himalayas, mountain rivers and natural reserves - fantastic opportunities for active leisure: trekking, rafting, etc.
