Concert or exhibition? In September, Berlin offers the best of both. From September 5 to 9, the Berlin Music Week will take place. Every year, this mixture of international gatherings, club nights, and live concerts thrills residents and visitors to Berlin. One week later, from September 11 to 16, the Berlin Art Week will open its doors for the first time, a festival which includes not only the renowned art fairs abc and Preview, but also the participation of more than a hundred galleries.

Silent Party and Rarefied Air: The Berlin Music Week from September 5 to 9

The central starting point for the Berlin Music Week this year is the Osthafen port at the Oberbaumbrücke bridge. The organizers have selected locations in the trendy district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. These include clubs on Schlesische Straße und Revaler Straße as well as the Michelsberger Hotel on Warschauer Straße.

One highlight of the Berlin Music Week will be the Berlin Festival on September 7 and 8 at the Tempelhofer Freiheit Park, the site of the former airport, artists such as Paul Kalkbrenner, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, and Bonaparte may be heard. After the last notes have faded away, though, things keep going on – with ten thousand headphones of the Silent Arena. Indie hits, disco classics, and electrocrackers – everyone gets their own program here. It’s only quiet on the outside.

The Berlin Music Week’s “Auf den Dächern-Konzerte” [“Concerts on the Rooftops”] have become legendary. Concerts are planned on three buildings at the Spreehafen, although the concrete addresses will only be made public shortly before the events. All those who are down-to-earth may enjoy the spectacles at the public viewing area on the bank of the Spree River, and all those who might be unable to get there can make use of mobile streaming.

Six Days of Art: Berlin Art Week (September 11-16)

From September 11 to 16, the premiere of Berlin Art Week will take place, with more than a hundred Berlin galleries presenting new artistic positions. In addition to the two art fairs abc and Preview , other participants in the festival with their own programs will include the KW Institute for Contemporary Art and the Berlinische Galerie. The Berlin Art Week is a platform for an exchange between artists, galleries, and institutions, and it is creating a new important date on the art calendar.
