Germany is a country located in Central Europe. The country shares borders with the nine states, and its natural boundaries are: two stretches of coastline to the north, the river Rhine - to the south-west and the Bavarian Alps - to the south-east. People lived on these fertile lands with deep rivers and dense forests from ancient times. For centuries the territory of modern Germany was divided among numerous kingdoms, duchies, bishoprics. After the Hitler’s defeat in World War II, in 1945, the country was divided into two independent States: the Federal and the Democratic Republics. In 1990, there was their reunion. Germany played a formative role in the history of the continent. From the time of Charlemagne and the Holy Roman Empire until the era of German Empire of Otto von Bismarck, the Nazi Reich, the construction and destruction of the Berlin Wall, Germany had an influence upon Europe more than any other state. This country is repleted with medieval castles, green valleys, mysterious forests, and neat little villages. Here you can easily believe in fairy tales, it is easy to imagine yourself adventures of the Grimm Brothers heroes and to understand that magic is possible also in our days. Every German city has its own unique character, formed by its history and the surrounding area.
