Phuket is the biggest island in Thailand, located in the Andaman Sea off southern Thailand. Most beaches are on the west coast, with Phuket Town to the south-east. Phuket is hot and humid throughout the year. The high season is generally supposed to be from November to May. During the summer monsoon season, mornings and afternoons are still sunny and clear, but it tends to rain in the evenings.
The island offers many different views and feels for you to explore and enjoy. There are the great viewpoints above Kata Bay and at Promthep cape, from which to see the sun set. Kata Beach with its impressive tropical scenery is compared with the dignified cassurina trees that are found on Nai Yang Beach just a few kilometers north. The triple canopy rainforest of Khao Phra Thaeo National Park is different from mangrove swamps of Koh Siray. Phuket is truly a tropical wonderland and offers something for just about everyone.
Scuba diving, yachting, jet-skiing and parasailing are the most popular activities on the island. Elephant riding is a good way to support the remaining domesticated elephants of Thailand and their mahout and can be an interesting new experience. For entertainment, Patong Beach, Kata and Karon offer bars, restaurants with fine seafood, and interesting nightlife.
Phuket Town has old traditional Thai character that means what the island was like before the tourists arrive. You might be enchanted by the old mansions and their Sino-Portuguese architecture or quite lanes with century-old Chinese herbalist shops. Phuket Vegetarian Festival - an annual event held during the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar. During this time, local residents of Chinese ancestry strictly observe a 10-day vegetarian diet for the purposes of spiritual cleansing and merit-making.
