The Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, located a four-hour drive from the city of Hue, is a World Heritage Site and record-holding caves lie under the densely forested mountains. Phong Nha Cave, the world’s longest underground river, can be explored by boat from the Chay River and recently discovered Paradise Cave features incredible stalactite and stalagmite formations. Both of these caverns can be explored in one day from the town of Dong Hoi before continuing to the city of Hue.

For those in search of more adventure, En Cave, featuring the world’s largest cave entrance, can be explored in two days and one night. Travellers will spend the night in the cave near the entrance and the total trekking distance to reach the cave is around 12km. For experienced spelunkers and trekkers, private tours are available to the recently discovered Son Doong Cave, featuring the world’s largest underground chamber. Due to its recent discovery, the cavern has not been improved or developed at all, making it unsafe for those without extensive spelunking experience.
