Khor Virap monastery is of “the same age\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" with Christianity in Armenia, one of the holy places of the Armenian Apostolic Church. It is located in the Ararat region, on a hill in the village of Maly Vedi. Biblical Mount Ararat is very well visible from here. According to a legend, in this monastery at the end of III rd century, Saint Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned in a pit for preaching of Christianity by the order ofTiridates III (Trdat the Great). After long years of incarceration, Saint Gregory has cured Trdat of serious illness by miracle, and then the king proclaimed Christianity as the state religion.
