In May, Japan’s heart will beat again on the Rhine for a whole day – at Japan Day Düsseldorf/NRW. As always, the festival will climax with a spectacular fireworks display once darkness has fallen. Before that, running enthusiasts will be gearing up for the METRO GROUP Marathon, and we will see music lovers from near and far flock to the city to enjoy the diversity of Düsseldorf’s Jazz Rally.

The second quarter of our bustling year in Düsseldorf will be marked by a variety of magnetic events that will draw countless visitors to the Rhine and into the city centre.

Japan Day Düsseldorf/NRW

On 25 May, Düsseldorf will once more transform into a Far Eastern metropolis, as the city for a whole day turns into “Japan on the Rhine”. Specialities such as sushi, sashimi or tempura alongside samurai in magnificent Japanese armour and Far Eastern craft including origami or shodo await visitors on Japan Day Düsseldorf/NRW between Altstadt (Old Town) and the Rhine embankment. It’s that time of the year again: Over the Whitsun weekend, Düsseldorf will be in full swing at Germany’s biggest jazz festival. From 17 – 19 May, more than 80 concerts on 36 stages featuring 500 musicians are inviting music lovers to come and join in the swinging fun. Düsseldorf’s Night of the Museums 2013

A spring night of art: On 20 April, exhibitions by great masters and the works of talented newcomers will attract visitors into both the established galleries and some completely unfamiliar locations in the state capital. Between 7:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., museum lovers of all ilk will be able to discover art and culture for all the senses. “Tannhäuser” première marking Wagner’s anniversary year in 2013

Deutsche Oper am Rhein will be staging a new production of Richard Wagner’s “Tannhäuser and the Singer’s War at the Wartburg” under the baton of musical director Axel Kober. Directed by Burkhard C. Kosminski, Swedish heldentenor Daniel Frank will be making his debut in Germany as Tannhäuser. “Sculpture at the Düsseldorf Art Academy” exhibition

The sculptors that have taught and studied at Düsseldorf’s long-established Kunstakademie (art academy) have given crucial impetus to the art scene since 1945. The works of important figures in this genre can be admired at the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen K20 Grabbeplatz up until 28 July. Some 130 projects by 53 artists including Joseph Beuys, Günther Uecker, Jörg Immendorff, Katharina Fritsch and Tony Cragg will be on display.
