The city of Sozopl appeared on the site of an ancient Greek colony on the Black Sea - Apollonia Pontika, named in honor of Apollo, god-patron of sea travelers. Today it is a city consisting mainly of 19 th century houses with numerous gardens. It is located on the peninsula. The old part of the city is an architectural reserve. To the south of the city there are two magnificent beaches, covered with golden sand. For centuries, the city attracts people of creative professions with its quiet solitude and serenity, old neat wooden houses. The city consists of two parts: the old city, located on the peninsula and the new one, called "Harmanitom", in memory of mills ("Harmani”), which were here in old times. Between these two parts of the city lies a magnificent park and beautiful orthodox churches. Not far from the town is located very interesting archaeological museum, representing one of the most interesting in Europe collection of ancient Greek vases. The Church of the Holy Virgin attracts the attention of tourists with no doubt. Art connoisseurs should necessary visit the art gallery. Shining peaks of Copper Mountains are seen from Sozopol, the highest point of which is Bakarlyk (376 m). For walking enthusiasts there are campsite near the town.
