This is overseas territory of the country, which was a strategic port for ships on the way to the Indian Ocean before they have built the Suez Canal. Saint Helena owes its popularity to Napoleon, who had spent his last years in exile here. This aspect attracts tourists. The island is of volcanic origin, so in the southern part one can see several extinct craters with the height up to 820 meters. Bus tours and Jeeps trips are organized on the island. British government promised to open a civilian airport in 2010, now there is only military one.
