The final countdown to the biggest European basketball event – EuroBasket 2013, to be held from 4 to 22 September in Ljubljana, Celje, Koper and Jesenice – has long begun. Numerous supporting activities that give the Championship a special charm and prove that Slovenia fully lives with the event are also in full swing. Follow Slovenia and EuroBasket 2013 activities.But with the coming of summer, Slovenia is also getting ready for numerous vibrant festival happenings. This year, summer will again be long, hot and vibrant – not only in the capital, Ljubljana, and Maribor, but throughout Slovenia, boasting cultural events for all ages and tastes.Slovenia declared the fifth European Destination of Excellence, whereas Portorož is with Internautica opening the 18th nautical season on the Adriatic, introducing several new features. Slovenia declared fifth European Destination of Excellence Destination Laško – the confluence of good is this years winner of the Slovenian selection for the European Destination of Excellence (EDEN). Following the Soča Valley, Solčavsko Region, Kolpa River and Idrija, it will be Slovenias fifth European Destination of Excellence. The topic of this years EDEN tender, put out by the European Commission, is accessible tourism; in the finals, Laško won against the destinations of Radovljica and Green Karst. more... Triglav National Park info center in Bled to get a new image Triglav National Park is the only Slovenian national park, one of the oldest national parks in Europe and got its name from the highest Slovenian mountain: Triglav (2864 m), which is a symbol of Slovenia. The park is visited by more than 2 million visitors annually and 55 per cent of them enter the park through Bled. Internautica opens the 18th nautical season on the Adriatic The INTERNAUTICA International Boat Show is the Adriatics most significant marine lifestyle event with a long tradition, held every year in May at the Portorož Marina. Every May, INTERNAUTICA awakens the nautical season, as well as all supporting activities on the Adriatic coast. March 2013 shows good results There were 2% more tourist arrivals and 3% more tourist overnight stays registered in tourist accommodations in Slovenia in March 2013 over March 2012 - there was increase in arrivals and overnight stays by foreiggn tourists and a decrease by domestic. In the first three months of this year about the same number of foreign tourist arrivals and overnight stays were registered. more...

The Slovenian pilot and photographer who flew around the world last year will face extremely low temperatures and snowstorms this time around. The flight with an extremely light, only 290 kg, airplane within the project GreenLight World Flight carries an important ecological message, summarized as Think small. Think light. Think green. The flight will last approximately four weeks; during this period, Lenarčič will fly over the Arctic and North Pole towards Canada, across the Atlantic and back. Follow his journey. more...
