Besides numerous cultural events, Maribor 2012 is offering a culinary greeting to the visitors and inhabitants of the European Capital of Culture. The European Capital of Culture is also the Capital of Flavours and would like to spice up the cultural program with the culinary and wine culture of the best regional ingredients; moreover, this will increase the recognisability of Maribor and its partnership towns as culinary and wine destinations.

The Capital of Flavours (Prestolnica okusov) represents the cuisine of this Slovene region. The goal of the project, which offers culinary culture on the tray along with the best regional ingredients, is to help Maribor and its partner cities to become well-known culinary destinations and to contribute to the success of the cultural events within the European Capital of Culture by raising the quality of catering services.

In such a manner, the Academy of Flavours is going to offer educational activities in the field of enogastronomy designed for both caterers and guests. ‘The Path of Flavours’ is going to lead between aromatic and tempting flavours through several restaurants, pubs, cafes, pastry shops, stores, wine bars, wine shops, and tourist farms. The cooperation of the best Slovene chefs is going to establish a new Slovene cuisine, connecting the rich culinary heritage of Slovenia and its provinces with the creativity of the chefs. Also, “In Wine Lies the Secret” is going to be a project presenting the wine story of the Capital of Flavours and introducing several premium wines from wine countries of the European Capital of Culture.

Furthermore, visitors to Maribor, the European Capital of Culture − the city with the oldest vine in the world (440 years) – are surrounded by vineyards. The people of Maribor take exceptional pride in the excellent quality of their wines, which express the territorial uniqueness of the Styrian character. And where in the city can they taste these wines? The answer lies in the promotional leaflet \"A glass of good wine\", which includes 41 restaurants and cafes in the city center where wines from the region can be tasted.
