Select the country and object's type HI Design 2012 to take over Helsinki\'s Cable Factory this summer

Industrial design experiences 8.6.-2.9.

This summer an unprecedented exhibition on the industrial design of Finnish companies will be on display in the Merikaapelihalli in Helsinki\'s Cable Factory. The extensive HI Design 2012 exhibition will explain the effect design has had on Finland\'s success and the surprising ways in which design can be influential.

HI Design 2012 will highlight a meeting point for high-quality design and technology. Visitors will gain a new perspective on everyday objects such as mobile telephones, and will be able to take a closer look at the equipment and machines used in heavy industry. The exhibition will detail the significance of design - about how, regardless of field, well-executed design can help to create durable, usable and attractive products, which are efficient to manufacture. Participating are some of Finland\'s top companies, such as Nokia, KONE, Konecranes, Rocla, Patria, Planmeca, Planmed, ABB and Link Design.

“Nokia is very excited to be participating in the Hi Design exhibition as part of our World Design Capital activities next summer. The central aim at the heart of Helsinki’s World Design Capital year is to inspire dialogue on how design can be used to make life better, easier and more functional. It’s an objective Nokia is happy to endorse\", says Marko Ahtisaari, Executive Vice President, Design, Nokia.

\"Design is an important competitive edge for KONE. KONE will provide the exhibition with two working elevators showcasing the latest technology and KONE’s award-winning designs. Elevators will be placed inside transparent shaft, and the machinery that is usually hidden away in the structures will be made visible, so that people get to observe closer how elevators work\", says Anne Korkiakoski, Executive Vice President, Marketing & Communications, KONE Corporation.

The exciting exhibition will open on Friday 8 June and close on Sunday 2 September. Entry to the exhibition is free and it will be open to the public from Thursdays to Sundays during the weeks it is open. The exhibition will be organised by World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 and the Federation of Finnish Technology Industries, while design office Pentagon Design is responsible for the planning and coordination of the exhibition.

\"We want to show people that design is an important success factor for the Finnish technology industry in international competition. The companies in the Federation of Finnish Technology Industries will bring their very best designed products to the Cable Factory. The products will showcase the utilisation of design in many ways: they are not just great-looking, but also aim at energy efficiency, ergonomics, safety and ease of use. The HI Design 2012 exhibition is a unique opportunity to get to know the most impressive industrial machines and equipment and their design stories\", says Kristiina Kaski, Marketing Manager from the Finnish Federation of Technology Industries.

Summer at the Cable Factory packed full of design

Other design-related exhibitions will also be on display at the Cable Factory this summer. From 8 June to 19 August, the Fennia Prize exhibition will be on display in Valssaamo and will present the winners of the international design competition to companies. The Fennia Prize – ‘Good Design Grows Global’ supports the production of top-quality products and services and promotes industrial competitiveness and internationalisation. The competition is being organised by Design Forum Finland and Fennia.

From 1.-24 June the exhibition of final project work from the Lahti University of Applied Sciences /Institute of Fine Arts will be on display in Puristamo at the Cable Factory, and will be followed by the French Institute’s design review from 25 July to 19 August.
