The World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 programme listing is digital, always up-to-the-minute and easy to carry around. The mobile app WDC 2012 was released today.

The advantages of the mobile app or the digital programme book are clear. It is always up-to-date, light to carry and easy to browse. Finding out about the 300 projects of WDC Helsinki 2012 and where they are located is easy with the app.

The WDC 2012 app was developed in cooperation with the WDC Helsinki 2012 partner Fjord. It is an excellent example of digital service design and also part of the official programme.

“We wanted to create a service that suits all situations and all user groups, such as city residents and tourists. It is important for the users that the essential and up-to-date content is easily accessible. This way, the WDC Helsinki 2012 comes close to the people and becomes part of their daily life. We paid special attention to simplicity and ease of use in the design, and I think we achieved a good end result”, says Olli Mannerkoski, Managing Director and designer of the specialist digital service design company Fjord.

As well as finding out about the programme, the mobile app also allows you to follow WDC Helsinki 2012 news. In addition to the “Design flow” of current highlights on the front page and the programme, there is a map, a monthly calendar, and basic information on WDC Helsinki 2012. Users can save their favourites in the app memory and return to them quickly. The app languages are Finnish, Swedish and English.

You can download the WDC 2012 app free from the WDC Helsinki 2012 website at www.wdchelsinki2012.fi/en/app. The app is available for four platforms and works on almost all smartphones on the market. The platforms are Meego, iOS, Symbian and Android.

As well as via the mobile app, you can check out the WDC Helsinki 2012 programme on our website www.wdchelsinki2012.fi/en. There is also a mobile website available, which operates on all mobile phones with a web browser. The programme will be available in printed form in the Design 2012 magazine, to be published 27 January.

The mobile app will be augmented during the rest of 2012 with new functions.
