Nordic Bloggers’ Experience is the new Finnish Champion of Municipal Marketing

Nordic Bloggers’ Experience blogger journey, which brought international bloggers to Helsinki and to other places in Finland, has won the Finnish Municipal Marketing Championships 2014. The victorious visiting programme was arranged from 12 to 18 January, 2014 by the Nordic Travel Fair MATKA.

More than 40 international travel bloggers participated in the programme, which reached in excess of 2 million readers worldwide. The blogger journey has brought plenty of international visibility to the Nordic Travel Fair MATKA, Helsinki and Finland.

– The bloggers\' posts have spread widely around the world through the social media channels. The results of Nordic Bloggers’ Experience exceeded all our expectations and the journey will be arranged again in January, 2015, says Maarit Pitkänen, Marketing Communications Director at Visit Helsinki.

The blogger programme was implemented by Nordic Travel Fair MATKA, Visit Helsinki, Visit Finland and Innastus Ltd. The results were published at the Piiri 2014 event, arranged on board M/S Wasa Express on 22 May.

Inspiring experiences for bloggers

The Nordic Bloggers’ Experience blogger journey is the biggest international travel blogger event arranged in Finland to date. The collaboration between several parties in carrying out the journey made it possible to make the project more diversified and imposing than the resources of any single party would have allowed for.

The main goal of the Nordic Bloggers’ Experience was to increase the fame of Helsinki and Finland as an attracting travel destination and fortify the international visibility of the Nordic Travel Fair MATKA. In autumn 2013, there was a worldwide search for bloggers who would make the blogger visits and a total of 120 applications were submitted. Eventually, 40 international travel bloggers were chosen, both from European countries and from the likes of China and South America.

During their multi-day visits, the bloggers got acquainted with Helsinki and Finland through different kinds of theme expeditions. The themes included, for example, design, food culture and urban nature. Visit Helsinki arranged a diverse range of experiences for the bloggers. The bloggers got a taste of the local food culture and a number of winter activities by means of city orienteering. Thanks to the diverse design programme, they also got some inspiring experiences of Finnish design. During two days, the bloggers also participated in the Nordic Travel Fair MATKA, which made it possible for the exhibitors to network internationally with the bloggers.

The programme was implemented on commission of the Nordic Travel Fair MATKA. The responsibility for the practical implementation and coordination of the blogger programme was with Innastus Ltd., which composed the programme with awarded German blogger Sebastian Canaves (www.off-the-path.com), Visit Helsinki and Visit Finland. Other partners in cooperation included the likes of Finnair, Iittala, Rovaniemi Tourism and Marketing and Viking Line.

The Nordic Travel Fair MATKA is the largest travel event in Northern Europe presenting Finnish and foreign destinations all around the world. It will be organised 15 – 18 January 2015 at Messukeskus Expo and Convention Centre Helsinki.
