Attractions of Albania. Ruins of the ancient city of Butrint are located near Saranda. According to Virgil, it was founded by Aeneas and built by the Trojans. Plutarch was sure that this is where Pan died. One way or another, but people lived in Butrint for three millennia since the ancient Greeks to the Venetians and left their imprint. Now it is - an open air museum, which attracts many tourists. Archaeological excavations have revealed many ancient monuments there: the city walls, theater, gates, baths. Among Byzantine sights are the Palace complex, the Basilica and the Baptistery (VI cent.) with stunning mosaics depicting a symbol of Christian Eucharist, wild animals, birds and fish. Outside Butrint have preserved the remains of churches, castles, Roman villas, and even a Roman aqueduct, which once supplied the city with water.
