Most of tourists, coming to Hungary, find themselves in the capital of this state, Budapest, at once. Sometimes they call Budapest - "Paris of Eastern Europe" - not only because of numerous historical monuments and amazing architecture, but also thanks to romantic aura, which lanes, squares and bridges of this beautiful city, situating on both sides of the blue Danube, literally radiate.
Budapest can not be characterized unambiguously. From one side -this city is quite young - the official date of its formation is 1873 – the date of the uniting of the cities of Buda, Pest and Óbuda. From the other side, already at the beginning of the New Era the Roman fort Aquincum was located on the territory of Óbuda, and in the II th century it became the capital of the ancient Roman province - Lower Pannonia. In place of Buda (on the right bank of the Danube) and Pest (on the left bank), first mentioned in chronicles of 1148, there were Celtic settlements in ancient times.
No wonder that the central part of the Hungarian capital is enlisted in the UNESCO list of cultural heritage of world’s significance – there are really a lot of to see and admire! Visiting Buda, take a walk to the Castle District, observe the Historical Museum at the Royal Palace, admire the St.Matthias Church - the favorite temple of locals. The main attraction of Pesht is, of course, the Parliament House, built in the 1885-1902 at a model of London Westminster Palace. Do not forget to walk along the Danube river - daytime, evening or night – and from the water you will discover completely different view of Budapest. The Hungarian capital is also famous for its baths - it is considered to be a balneologic capital of the world.
HungaryPalaces in the Baroque style, fortresses and castles, small villages on the Danube banks, the Lake Balaton resorts and delicious wine attract tourists to Hungary |
