Baden-Wuerttemberg is the Federal state, located in southwestern Germany. It shares borders with France - to the west, Rhineland-Palatinate - to the north-west, Hessen - to the north, with Bavaria - to the east and Switzerland - to the south. The capital is the city of Stuttgart.
Baden-Württemberg was formed on April 25, 1952 by merging federal states of Baden-Wurttemberg, Baden and Wuerttemberg-Hohenzollern.
This land is not rich in minerals, but, nevertheless, is a highly economically developed region. There are world-renowned companies, such as Mercedes-Benz, Bosch, Porsche, Daimler, IBM, and many others. Traditional industries here are production of watches (Suedschwarzwald) and precious stones processing (Pforzheim). Mild climate and fertile land are conducive for winemaking, agriculture and forestry. Vast forests and abundance of curative springs provide excellent opportunities for tourism development. The Land of Baden-Wuerttemberg is also rich with attractions - splendid palaces and castles, magnificent churches and monasteries, museums with collections of art masterpieces, a variety of gardens and parks. There are two sites listed in the Book of World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in Baden-Württemberg: Maulbronn monastery and the island of Reichenau at Lake Constance. Bergstrasse-Odenwald Natural Reserve Park is a member of UNESCO World Network of Geoparks - there one can get an idea about 500 million years of the world’s history.
