Azerbaijan is a state, located in the eastern part of the Caucasus on the south-west coast of the Caspian Sea. It shares borders with Russia and Georgia to the north, Armenia to the west and Iran to the south. The exclave of Nakhichevan is bounded by Armenia to the north and east, Iran to the south and west. The Nagorno-Karabakh region - self-declared independent region in the southwest of the country is not recognized by any nation and considered to be a legal part of Azerbaijan. Baku is the capital of the country.
Azerbaijan is situated at the crossroads of two continents - Europe and Asia, and it affects everything that one can see here. There is a great deal of historical monuments belonging to different epochs. Among them are: The Rock Engravings of Gobustan, dating from the XII-X millennium BC, monuments of the Scythian culture (III-II millennium BC), monuments of the Albanian culture (IV -XII cent. BC), and other numerous historical sites relating to Christian and Islamic periods. In Azerbaijan there are over 130 museums, galleries and its branches in all cities and regions of the republic. Unique ancient mausoleums: Momine-Khatun, Yousif mausoleum, towers of the Absheron peninsula.
