Antigua is an extremely attractive place for all travelers and vacationers. Everyone will find something interesting here - both those who like privacy and wants to merge with a beautiful nature, and those who want to have fun. Exceptionally beautiful, coral island of Barbuda is known for its beaches of magnificent sand. The island is virtually uninhabited - just over a thousand of inhabitants. But the island is home to numerous birds and lizards. Virgin nature is best preserved on Barbuda. Marine parks are created here to preserve nature. The main part of the island is a plain, part of which is of volcanic origin. The highest point in the country is Mount Obama (known as Boggy Peak until August 4, 2009). There are convenient harbors along the coast. Barbuda is located at a distance of 50 km. to the north of Antigua. This is, in fact, a small island surrounded with coral reefs from all sides. Codrington, the capital of Barbuda, is more like a village or a small, attractive town with hotels, bars and restaurants. It is most crowded on Sundays, when cricket competitions are held here.
Redonda Island, is about 60 km away from Antigua. It has appeared once as a result of volcanic eruption. The temperature ranges from 25 to 28*C. The island is located in tropical volcanoes area, which causes a great harm to the country. Fresh water on the islands is obtained from artesian wells and installations for desalination. In addition to comfortable beaches, hotels and resorts on the islands there are modern nightclubs, casinos and entertainment complexes. It should be noted that 2/3 of locals, hospitable and good-natured people, are busy in tourist-service business.
St. John's is the capital of Antigua. It is home to most of the population of the country. Here, vacationers should certainly pay attention to Redcliffe-Kwai district, to an embankment around the harbor and to Heritage-Kwai complex. There are the biggest shops, galleries and restaurants here.
Buildings of the capital are also very attractive - stone houses and huts made of wood. The islands have all opportunities for water sports: windsurfing, snorkeling, sport fishing. The Bay, called "English" is the most famous in Antigua. British fleet, led by Admiral Nelson, was located here in the end of the XVIII th century. Now it is home to international yacht marina.
Jolly, noisy carnival, attracting thousands of tourists takes place in Antigua and Barbuda annually.
