The United Arab Emirates is a federation which consists of seven emirates: Umm al-Quwain, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi with the capital city Abu Dhabi. The UAE was formed in 1971from tribally organized Arabian Peninsula sheikhdoms along the southern coast of the Persian Gulf and the northwestern coast of the Gulf of Oman. Four-fifths of the UAE is desert, yet it is a country of contrasting landscapes, from awe-inspiring dunes to rich oases, from precipitous rocky mountains to fertile plains.
The United Arab Emirates, one of the world's fastest growing tourist destinations, has all the right ingredients for an unforgettable holiday, sun, sand, sea, sports, unbeatable shopping, top-class hotels and restaurants, an intriguing traditional culture, and a safe and welcoming environment. There are long stretches of white-sand beaches, ranging from completely undeveloped to highly crowded. The snorkeling and diving can be magnificent, especially along the eastern coast. The mountains are dramatic, steep rocky crags, and a visit to them is well rewarded with amazing views.
Rooted in Islamic culture, the UAE has strong ties with the rest of the Arab and Islamic world. The government is committed to preserving traditional forms of art and culture. Music and dance are inextricably linked in the traditional Arab world, and each musical instrument plays for a specific style of dance. The singers are accompanied by the wailing, treble melody of the flute. The dancers and singers are white-robed men, moving together slowly and rhythmically. Each troupe will perform on a wide variety of instruments, and will present an equally wide variety of dances.
The United Arab Emirates’ tourist industry has helped to fuel a construction boom, with billions of dollars being pumped into showpiece schemes. Chic hotels and skyscrapers are emblematic of cities such as Abu Dhabi and cosmopolitan Dubai.
One of the things the UAE is most famous for is shopping. If you are interested in shopping, you can't leave the UAE without visiting Dubai. Dubai boasts the best places for shopping in the whole of the Middle East, especially during the annual shopping festival, usually from mid-January to mid-February.
