The most popular tourist site of Scotland is its ancient and modern capital, Edinburgh. The city is located in a picturesque place - on the southern coast of the Forth Gulf and has been known since VI th century. Edinburgh - majestic and ancient city, crowned by the castle, towering high above streets on a huge granite rock. The symbol of the city - Edinburgh Castle, gave the original name to the city - Dan Edin, which translated from the Celtic means "a castle on a hill." Now the castle houses a museum of weapons. From the castle begins the Royal Mile - the main attraction of the Old City, which leads to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the royal residence of the Queen during her stay in Edinburgh.
