The great concerts of Music&Live are back
This year, too, Friuli Venezia Giulia will host great international music events in which all the people coming from outside the region can participate even more easily thanks to the Music&Live offer, which proposes the formula “spend the night in the region at a partner hotel and you will get a free ticket”. A not-to-be-missed opportunity to enjoy good music and discover some of Friuli Venezia Giulia’s many treasures.
The 2013 music season will start in Trieste on 25th May for the first Italian date of Green Day: “¡Uno, dos, tré, tour!” is the title of the new adventure of this American punk band, able to sell millions of records and to make people love punk. On 17th June at the Villa Manin of Passariano, on the other hand, it will be the turn of the “Monster Tour 2013” of Kiss, who will be back in Italy two years after their last unforgettable concert to present their twentieth album in a show that, more than usual, will probably be even richer in lights and coups de théâtre.
The calendar of events for the month of July is extremely rich: on Tuesday 9th in Sesto al Reghena, at the Sexto ‘Nplugged 2013 festival, there will be the performance by the Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men, and on 11th July Villa Manin will host Rammstein for the only concert in northern Italy of the “Made in Germany” tour. In Grado, on Tuesday 16th July, the charming Diga Nazario Sauro will be the setting of the concert by Queen guitarist Brian May accompanied by singer Kerry Ellis. Finally, on Wednesday 24th in Majano the legendary Deep Purple will be back on international stages after two years of absence to present their latest album.

Friuli Venezia Giulia’s most beautiful gardens will be open to the public on a special day
On Sunday 19th May the gates of over sixty wonderful private gardens will be open to the public for free for the whole day, making this charming natural and cultural heritage available to everyone. This initiative, organized by the gardening club “Amici in Giardino” with the support of the Agenzia TurismoFVG (Friuli Venezia Giulia’s Tourist Board), is in its fourth year and aims at enhancing the value of private gardens as a resource for the territory and, at the same time, aims at reviving the interest in public gardens. For those who are keen on gardening, greenery and the environment, it is a not-to-be-missed event that brings to Italy a tradition that is well established in England, France and Austria.
The participating gardens are scattered all over the region and are of various sizes and types: rocky gardens, Italian-style gardens, ancient gardens, Japanese gardens, gardens with aquatic plants and vineyard-gardens.
Friuli Venezia Giulia, a … divine region! – Part three: Trieste’s Jewish community
One cannot speak of Judaism in Friuli Venezia Giulia without immediately thinking of Trieste and its monumental synagogue, one of the largest in Europe, which provides evidence of the importance that the Jewish community has had in the city’s economic and cultural life. The itinerary among the many symbols and monuments that the city preserves, from the ghetto, today the destination of antique collectors and enthusiasts, to the ancient cemetery, to the Jewish museum, tells of a community that for centuries lived in relative peace thanks to the liberal attitude of the Habsburg sovereigns. Dramatic events, on the other hand, hit it in the twentieth century: from the racial laws announced by Mussolini in 1938 in Trieste, to the boarding of many Jewish refugees who from eastern Europe fled to the Americas, to the sorting camp of San Sabba, from which hundreds of people left for the places of Nazi savagery. The Risiera di San Sabba was declared a national monument in 1975 and today is a museum.
In Pordenone a planetarium for discovering the sky
Until the end of May at Pordenone’s Science Centre Immaginario Scientifico there will be Starlab, the inflatable planetarium that allows to see the heavenly bodies and discover which planets are visible in every season of the year.
On Sunday, an entertainer will guide children and adults to discover the movements of stars at nightfall and will teach how to recognize the constellations and the planets that can be seen to the naked eye. Moreover, all the other attractions of the Immaginario Scientifico are still active as well, such as the hands-on exhibits of the Fenomena section, interactive stations that allow to physically experience some of the physical principles that govern natural phenomena, or the spectacular images of the Kaleido section, thanks to which spectators will make an imaginary journey through the abyss of the sea, in the world’s least explored places.
Finally, children cannot miss the afternoon building workshop “Scienziati della domenica” (Sunday scientists).
Bed and breakfast Casa Angela in Udine: in the heart of the city, an Art Nouveau house and a perfect welcome
A well-deserved first place in the TripAdvisor ranking of Udine’s bed and breakfasts and full mark reviews for Casa Angela, thanks to the characteristics of the facility but, above all, to the quality of welcome. Situated in a low-traffic area, a few steps from the city centre, the railway station and the airport bus terminal, this bed and breakfast is an excellent starting point to visit the historic sites of Udine and of the whole region. Casa Angela is a completely renovated Art Nouveau house of the early twentieth century, equipped with a garden, and provides three rooms in two apartments with a kitchen, heating, air conditioning and external parking.
Prices are accessible and, moreover, there are several offers on the occasions of feasts or particular events, as in the case of the Far East Film Festival, the famous festival dedicated to Asian cinema, which will be held in Udine from 19th to 27th April.
