Friuli Venezia Giulia’s snow in a vertical portal

In order to best communicate all the tourist attractions in Friuli Venezia Giulia and to suit the various requirements of tourists, Agenzia TurismoFVG (Friuli Venezia Giulia’s Tourist Board) is reorganizing the information on the Internet into themed vertical portals: one of the first to be set up is the vortal fvgneve.com, dedicated to winter in the mountains. Therefore, those who are planning a holiday on the snow of Friuli Venezia Giulia can access all the information and data they are interested in in one single point: ski areas, information on the cross-country ski runs and on the snowboard arenas, the description of the ski touring itineraries and, of course, the information on all the other winter activities, such as snowshoeing, dog sledding, ice skating, ice climbing and sled rides. You will also find a section dedicated to offers, with all the package holidays that combine the activities with a stay at a partner hotel at special prices.

The vertical portals, which offer higher-value contents and services to meet the requirements of a specific category of users, are one of the instruments adopted by TurismoFVG in its 2.0 tourist communication and marketing strategy, supported by funds from Regional Operative Programmes (POR) and European Fund for Regional Development (POR FESR 2007-2013).

From Gorizia to Bled on the historic steam train

A real journey through space and time, on a steam train that along the historic railways travels through the territories of the ancient Austro-Hungarian Empire: a tourist proposal of the GOIS (Gorizia and Isontino) Tourist Consortium that organizes, on various dates from April to October, a weekend that begins in the Italian Gorizia and continues in the Slovenian Gorizia, reaching the lake of Bled. You will travel along a stretch of the historic “Transalpine Railway”, which was inaugurated on 19th July 1906 to complete the railway network that linked Vienna and Central Europe to the Adriatic regions of the Empire, and in particular to the port of Trieste. Today it is a tourist railway that links Friuli Venezia Giulia to Austria and Slovenia. It travels along beautiful rivers and allows to admire territories of incomparable and changeable beauty. The travel proposal comprises one night accommodation in Gorizia, lunches and guided tours.

Friuli Venezia Giulia, a… divine region! – Part two: the worship of Mithras

Mithras is a god present in various traditions and locations, of course it could not be missing in Friuli Venezia Giulia, which has always been a crossroads of peoples and cultures. The worship of this god arrived in the region from the Alexandrian world, to which Aquileia was linked by trade and cultural relationships. An exceptional temple dedicated to Mithras was found near Duino and is one of the oldest Mithrean temples discovered so far and the only hypogeum. The ceremony in honour of this god occurred always in underground environments, usually artificial or, more rarely, as in this case, natural. The cave in which it was obtained has preserved for centuries an altar and many devotional offerings. The area is that of the Karst and in particular that of the mouths of the Timavo, the river that flows mostly underground and reappears in this point, then flowing into the Adriatic. The presence of a river that gushed out of the ground must have aroused interest in and frightened the primitive populations and, actually, besides Mithras, in the area there were places of worship of other gods, then replaced by Christian chapels and basilicas.

“Le voci dell’inchiesta” is back in Pordenone

The long season of cultural events, which for some years now has characterized Pordenone, is ready for 2013 as well: “Le voci dell’inchiesta”, an original event that proposes meetings, debates, lectures and film showing dedicated to the instrument of inquiry, considered both in its journalistic function and as means of artistic expression for authors and filmmakers, will be back from 10th to 14th April. The programme schedule is divided by themes and forms of inquiry, to which the various events are dedicated, which will be distributed in three different cinemas of the city. The flagship of the festival will be the guests who, this year too, will be of high level: masters and protagonists of the journalistic inquiry in all its forms, from newspapers to the Internet to the new media, as well as of the filmed cinema and television inquiry. The event, unique of its kind in Italy, is in its 7th year.
