Select the country and object's type LGBT Heritage Month

LGBT Heritage Month was created by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Christopher Street West/LA Pride in 2011 to promote and celebrate the diversity, history and culture of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community in the City of Los Angeles. LGBT Heritage Month is the newest Heritage Month celebration, presented each June by Toyota Motor Services-Toyota/Lexus Financial Services, Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa, Christopher Street West/LA Pride, the Department of Cultural Affairs and the City of Los Angeles. Other Heritage Months include African American Heritage Month, Latino Heritage Month, American Indian Heritage Month and Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

In addition to this month\'s special events like LA PRIDE and Fade to Blue, LA\'s vibrant LGBT culture can be experienced year round throughout the city.

The annual LA PRIDE celebration continues to draw over 500,000 people each year and remains a major focus for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender pride in the greater Los Angeles area. Christopher Street West (CSW) works year round to ensure that our legacy is safe and will continue for generations to come.

Festival

Saturday 12:00 Noon – 12:00 Midnight

Sunday 11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.

During the renovation under the City of West Hollywood Park Master Plan, and building of the new West Hollywood Library, the LA PRIDE Festival will take place with a new format within West Hollywood Park, on San Vicente Blvd. from Santa Monica Blvd. to Melrose Ave. Enjoy live entertainment on multiple stages, headline performances, all new dance venues, numerous exhibitors, food and drink vendors and thousands of members of LA\'s vibrant and active LGBT community.

Parade

One of the largest and most inclusive parades in Los Angeles, the LA PRIDE Parade steps off in West Hollywood at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 10 and travels westbound along Santa Monica Blvd., from Crescent Heights Blvd., to the main entrance of the LA PRIDE Festival at San Vicente Blvd. Over 400,000 will participate in this emotionally charged gathering showcasing the colorful diversity and creative community participation of the LGBT community. Attendees should plan to arrive early. Traffic will be closed on Santa Monica Blvd. between Fairfax Ave. and Doheny Dr. starting at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 10. Santa Monica Blvd. will re-open immediately at the end of the end of the Parade, which may be as late as 4:00 p.m.

Each year the very special title of LA PRIDE Parade Community Grand Marshal is reserved for one group that has been particularly effective in forwarding the mission of Christopher Street West--advancing equality and fostering better understanding of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) issues. Christopher Street West have announced that The Trevor Project has been selected as the 2012 Community Grand Marshal. The Trevor Project, headquartered along the parade route, has participated in LA PRIDE since its early years, utilizing the exposure to build awareness of its life-saving and life-affirming services for LGBTQ youth.

The Abbey - West Hollywood

Not only is West Hollywood (known locally as “WeHo”) the home of LA PRIDE, it’s also the heart of LA’s gay and lesbian community, where fully 50 percent of the resident population identify as gay or lesbian. The lively “Boys Town” along Santa Monica Boulevard is the site of the PRIDE Parade route, and also where half a million costumed revelers gather for the annual Halloween Costume Carnaval. The rest of the year, it\'s busy day and night with restaurants, bars and dance clubs. If you’re looking for a place with all three of these things wrapped into one lively package, head to The Abbey, dubbed by MTV “The Best Gay Bar in the World.” What began in 1991 as a simple coffeehouse has grown into one of the most popular hotspots in the country, known for its martinis, mojitos and a staff that’s as eye catching as the decor.

Out & About Tours

This tour was crafted with everyone in mind: gay or straight, young or old, local or visitor.
