Victorian bushfires tourism recovery
Exciting events, improved national park facilities and effective marketing have brought tourists back to the Victorian regions devastated by bushfires in 2009. Two years on from the tragic Black Saturday bushfires that claimed 173 lives, a reconstruction package from the Australian and Victorian Governments has helped get Victorian tourism back on its feet. The $10 million joint recovery package provided $1 million for events, $3 million for parks visitor facilities, and $6 million for marketing of bushfire impacted regions. By working together, the Australian and Victorian Governments have been helping to rebuild the economic fabric of Victorias communities to support more than 193,000 direct and indirect Victorian tourism jobs, said the Minister for Tourism, the Hon. Martin Ferguson AM MP.
