Select the country and object's type LA Venues Salute the Military with Discounts

In honor of our nation\'s military members, an array of LA area attractions salute service men and women with free Veterans Day programs or venue discounts, most of them valid year-round. In addition, there are a number of military-themed museums that delve into the history of several wars.

Free Veterans Day Programs

The Aquarium of the Pacific is offering free admission to veterans, military personnel, police officers and firefighters with service I.D. on Nov. 11, 2011. In addition, military members receive discounted tickets throughout the year when purchased at an MWR office. The aquarium, home to more than 12,500 animals, explores the three main regions of the vast Pacific Ocean: the waters of Southern California and Baja; the Northern Pacific, off the coasts of Alaska, Russia and Japan; and the Tropical Pacific. Open 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily except Christmas Day and the weekend of the Grand Prix of Long Beach.

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Library celebrates Veterans Day with a free program featuring a flyover and live music from 10:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 11. Separate admission to the library. Throughout the year, active military members pay $9 admission. Show your base I.D. or dress in uniform. The library documents President Reagan’s administration through photographs, artifacts, films and tapes. Visitors can walk aboard the actual Air Force One aircraft, which flew seven U.S. presidents. Open 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily except major holidays. $12 adults, $6 ages 11 – 17.

Although the Los Angeles Zoo itself does not offer military discounts, a member of the military can get $2 off the admission price by purchasing tickets from a military base. Guests have a reel good time when they take the world famous Warner Bros. Studios VIP Tour in Burbank. Get $5 off regular admission for this two-hour tour that visits sets and wardrobe, make-up, set-building and props departments. Ride comfortably in a large golf cart as you journey through the studio’s historic back lot soundstages. You can also walk around the New York, Chinatown and European “neighborhoods.” A tour highlight is the Warner Bros​. museum, accessible to the public only during tours. Theme Parks

Find King Kong-sized military discounts all year long at Universal Studios Hollywood. Eligible members include members of the Armed Forces, including retirees, members of the National Guard/reserves, dependents and all other base personnel. But tickets must be purchased in advanced and can only be obtained at participating MWR/ITT offices. These special military rates are not available at the Universal Studios Hollywood box office. A military or U.S. Government I.D. is required. The park’s popular attractions include The Simpsons Ride, Shrek 4-D and Jurassic Park-The Ride. Learn about the movie-making business on the Studio Tour, which wraps through TV and movie sets on trams equipped with high definition monitors. Wind down the day at CityWalk, jam-packed with restaurants and shops.

Step in time to parades, rides and attractions at the Disneyland Resort, which makes sure military personnel find this to be the Happiest place on Earth. The resort offers 3-Day Park Hopper tickets for $99 each, through Sept. 28, 2012. That’s a savings of 55 percent off ticket booth prices. These tickets can be purchased at participating U.S. military outlets by any eligible military personnel or their spouse. There is a six ticket limit during any single week of the promotion, and a 12 ticket maximum. Contact the Los Angeles Air Force Base, Force Support Squadron for whopping discounted tickets to Six Flags Magic Mountain. Adults pay $27, kids admitted for $18. The park is popular for its wild roller coasters. Located in Valencia, California.

Getting Around

All aboard AMTRAK for a 10 percent active-duty US military personnel discount. This applies to spouses and dependents as well. The discount is valid on the lowest available rail fare on most Amtrak trains, including for travel on the Auto Train. You must present a valid, active-duty military United States Armed Forces identification card. Certain restrictions apply, so be sure to visit www.amtrak.com for more information.

Military-Themed Museums & Monuments

The Wende Museum’s extensive collection of Cold War-era artworks and artifacts explores the history of East Germany and the Soviet Union from 1945 – 1991. At 3 p.m. on Fridays, there’s a one-hour tour of the vault where visitors will see additional collections and learn more about the operation of the museum.

Docked at Berth 94 in San Pedro, the S.S. Lane Victory serves as a living museum and memorial to the service and services of all Merchant Marine sailors and Navy Armed Guardsmen. Built in 1945, the vessel served during World War II​, The Korean War​, and the Vietnam War​. $5 adults, $2 children.

Members of the military can find additional information on discounts and great rates at the Los Angeles Air Force Base, Force Support Squadron, which has special military discounts to many theme parks, movie theaters, shows, entertainment venues and hotels. Ticket prices may vary depending on event date. Typically, expect to save between $2 and $20 per person.
