STAR rated accommodation awarded TQUAL accreditation
STAR rated hotels, motels and caravan parks are amongst the seven thousand Australian accommodation businesses which will now be able to carry the Australian national symbol of tourism quality – the TQUAL mark. AAA Tourism’s STAR Ratings Scheme is the third program to be approved for TQUAL accreditation by the Tourism Quality Council of Australia. The Minister for Tourism, the Hon. Martin Ferguson AM MP, said momentum was building behind the single recognisable symbol of tourism quality. “By using the TQUAL mark, accredited tourism operators will stand out in a crowded market-place and show consumers they are delivering on their promise of quality, reliability and professionalism.”

It will be held 24 – 26 August in Newcastle and early bird rates are available to 30 July 2011.
Queensland’s blockbuster appearance at the MCG
The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) will take on a Queensland theme during June to encourage AFL fans to visit Queensland. The Minister for Tourism, the Hon. Martin Ferguson AM MP, and the Queensland Tourism Minister, Jan Jarratt, welcomed the innovative marketing blitz which is part of the joint Federal and State Governments’ $12 million tourism recovery funding package. “Victorians love AFL and they clearly love holidaying in Queensland - 1.5 million Victorians holidayed in the Sunshine State last year,” Minister Ferguson said. “Not only will Queensland capture the attention of the hundreds of thousands of spectators at the MCG, millions more Aussies will tune in to watch the four Queensland themed matches as part of the Nothing Beats Queensland campaign,” he added.
Business travel strengthens tourism recovery
Business visitors in the March quarter of 2011 were up 11 per cent and there were increases in visitors from China (up 23 per cent), India (up 13 percent), and Indonesia (up 10 per cent) while Japan declined 16 per cent. “These are robust figures in light of recent challenges and show that, by and large, Australia’s tourism industry has come through a turbulent few months in better shape than many had feared,” said the Minister for Tourism, the Hon. Martin Ferguson AM MP. “Our challenge is to make the most of emerging markets and that’s what the Australia-China Tourism Summit in Cairns this week is doing,” he added.
