Win a stay in Friuli Venezia Giulia with the Frecce Tricolori

The summer air show by the Frecce Tricolori is back on the beaches of the Adriatic sea: until September some seaside resorts will host the famous show by the Italian national aerobatic team, based in Friuli Venezia Giulia. This year the event also includes a prize competition to invite tourists to discover Friuli Venezia Giulia’s hinterland as well. On the occasion of the air shows of Chioggia (14/7), Lignano Sabbiadoro (18/8), Grado (25/8) and Jesolo (1/9) a promotional stand of TurismoFVG will distribute a free coupon for the participation in the competition. Three nights in a double room with breakfast in the province of Udine, Pordenone and Gorizia, respectively, and many immediate prizes, including 10 Box for you Friuli Venezia Giulia, the gift box that comprises one night accommodation and an experience to be chosen from taste, wellness, culture or amusement, are up for grabs.

Adventure climb Varmost - the thrilling via ferrata - to open again

Don’t expect to find the classic via ferrata, Adventure Climb Varmost is much more: canyons, suspended bridges, gorges and overhanging climbs in a track equipped with steel safety ropes and steps. After reaching the top of Clap Varmost you will enjoy the amazing view over the Friulian Dolomites, the Carnic Alps, the Julian Alps, and then over the Tagliamento Valley with the town of Forni di Sopra and the neighbouring villages. Children, or those who suffer from fear of heights but do not want to give up the thrill of such a view, can reach the top along another easier and more comfortable path. Access to the via ferrata is free and, for those who wish it, it is also possible to be accompanied by an Alpine guide. There is an alternative way back as well, to enjoy another panoramic view and have the opportunity to taste the products of the Malga Varmost.

Friuli Venezia Giulia, a … divine region! – Part six: the Germanic heritage

A privileged point of passage in the Alps, Friuli Venezia Giulia had more or less deep contacts with the Germanic world in the pre-Roman age and then, above all, in the period of the large migrations that followed the crisis of the Empire. Of the Germanic gods worshipped by these populations evidence can still be found in the toponyms and in the legends: the name of the city of Udine, for instance, may derive from the god Odin, the king of the Nordic people, the god of wisdom, of war, of death, but also of poetry and of magic. His son Thor, too, is remembered in the regional toponyms in the name of the Torre stream, but also in the charming name of a mountain range in the Dolomites: the Spalti del Toro. It is here that, in the 5th century, in a valley at the foot of magnificent mountains with soaring pinnacles, the Celts settled and dedicated this piece of the Dolomites to their god. This range comprises the most famous summit in the Friulian Dolomites, the Campanile di Val Montanaia, an extremely beautiful and wild pinnacle that stands in the middle of the valley, definitely isolated and totally far from the mountain faces, in a position considered unique in the world.

Paragliding Italian open 2013

The Friulian Dolomites will be the spectacular setting of the Italian Gliding Championships, which will be held in Meduno, in the province of Pordenone, from 2nd to 10th August. There will be about 120 paragliding pilots, coming from 20 different countries; it will be possible to admire their flights every afternoon from 1.00 to about 5.30 p.m.

The small town of Meduno is famous and is appreciated by gliding and ultralight flying enthusiasts on an international level: gentle grassy slopes, ideal aerological conditions, constant and strong thermals make it every year the perfect destination for thousands of Italian and foreign gliders. This summer there will be three special opportunities for beginners: on 13/07, on 3/8 and on 14/9 they will have the chance to enjoy a thrilling tandem paragliding flight with an instructor. The price of the flight for FVG Card holders is of € 12.50 (instead of € 25). Moreover, this card can be used for many other activities. The discovery card of Friuli Venezia Giulia, which provides free admission to the main museums and monuments of the region, as well as significant discounts for over 300 facilities and services, is available in three versions (48 hours, 72 hours and 1 week at the price of € 15, 20 and 29, respectively), is activated at the first use and its benefits can be extended, in addition to the holder, to one child up to 12 years old as well.
