Burkina Faso is a state in West Africa, to the south of the Sahara desert. It has borders with Mali to the north, Niger - to the east, Benin - to the south-east, Togo and Ghana - to the south, and Côte d'Ivoire - to the south-west. An important feature of the geographical position of Burkina Faso is the distance from the ocean (about 800 km). There are also no large-scale inland waterways: the most important rivers - the Black Volta and White Volta are Non-Navigational most of the year. Burkina Faso is located on a plateau, situated at an altitude of 200 to 700 m above sea level. Savannah is a predominant type of landscape.
The climate is sub-equatorial, with a pronounced dry season in winter. To the north, a dry period may lasts up to 8-10 months. The average temperature is +24 - +26°C in winter and up to +30 - +35°C in summer.
The capital - Ouagadougou - was founded in the 15 th century. Ouagadougou is one of a few country's transport junctions, as well as important agricultural trading center.
Stone tools, rock paintings, as well as copper and bronze articles found during archaeological surveys in Burkina Faso, show that its territory was absorbed by man long before Our Era. First state formations appeared on the territory of modern Burkina Faso in the early medieval period (from 11 to 13-14 centuries). First Europeans appeared in Burkina Faso only in the early 19 th century.
Burkina Faso is a parliamentary republic. The head of the country is a president, elected by direct voting for a 5-year term. Prime Minister is at the head of a government.
Country’s population is 13 229 thousand people. Ethnic composition of the population is remarkably variegated: there are about 100 ethnic groups. The official language of the country is French, but Moré language is also widely used.
Up to 50% of the population professes Islam, indigenous cults - 40%, Roman Catholicism - 10%.
Tourism is an important component of Burkina Faso economy. There are a lot of natural attractions and historical monuments of different eras - from Neolithic to Colonial period.
