The republic of Benin is located in West Africa, on the territory where once was located the Kingdom of Dahomey. The simple people of Dahomey were occupied mainly in agriculture, and the rulers – in a slave trade, selling up to 20 thousand people per year. Hence, the name of the coast of Benin - "the Slave Coast". Modern Benin consists of more than 40 ethnic groups, the most numerous of which are: the Fon, the Yoruba, the Bariba, the Dendi, the Fulbe, the Betammaribe, the Somba and many others. Also, there are about 5 thousand Europeans. The majority of the population are adherents of Islam or voodoo. Landscapes and nature of the country are extremely diverse: the coastal sand plain is replaced by a system of swamps and lagoons, some of which have outlet to the sea, further to the north come savannah and sparse woodland, and to the northeast - a hilly area. The cheetah, the elephant, the antelope, the panther, the lion, the buffalo and many other representatives of the fauna are found here. Top Sightseeing tours: the National Museum and the Botanical Garden (the city of Cotonou), the Royal Palace of the Fon and the Historical Museum (the city of Abomey), the Ethnographic Museum (the city of Porto-Novo), the temple of Pythons and the Museum of Voodoo (Ouidah)).
