World Ice and Snow Surfing Championships 2013 at Kalajoki Finland -Russia and Belarus represented with almost 30 competitors
Kalajoki dunes* will wake up from the wintery sleep on week 10 as about a hundred competitors take part in the 33. Winter Surfing World Championships WISSA 2013.
Almost 100 participants have confirmed their participation. So far Russia, Sweden, France, Switzerland, USA, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus and Finland are represented in the Worlds. The biggest amount of competitors are coming from Russia and Belarus, almost 30 competitors.
The classes are windsurf, kitesurf and kitewing. Participants compete in 9 disciplines, e.g. in Short Track Slalom and Course Race.
The event starts already on 2nd and 3rd March with Finnish Open Championships. WISSA 2013 Worlds start with an opening ceremony on Monday evening 4th March in Sani hotel and racing of the title of World Champions start on Tuesday morning 5th March.
The event is free of charge and offers people of all ages a perfect opportunity to enjoy the beautiful winter and have fun on ice and snow!
The event is supported by the Ambassador of United States of America Mr. Bruce J. Oreck. Also Mr. Jorma Leppänen from the Island Councel Committee of Ministry of Employment and Economy, Mr. Jaakko Lehtonen, the Director General of Finnish Tourist Board and Mr. Jukka Puoskari, the Mayor of Kalajoki are supporting the event

· Kalajoki Dunes is located at the coast of the North Sea, 130 kilometres to the south from Oulu and 60 kilometres up to the north from Kokkola. The closest airports are in Oulu and Kokkola, the closest railway station is in Ylivieska (40 kilometres).
