Border Book Festival and Galería Tepín Call for Photography
Las Cruces, N.M. -- The Border Book Festival (BBF) and Galería Tepín are calling for photo submissions for an upcoming juried exhibition, MÉXICO LINDO Y QUERIDO -- BEAUTIFUL AND BELOVED MÉXICO.
The exhibition will open on Thursday, September 15 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Galería Tepín, 2220 Calle de Parian in Mesilla. The gallery is located a block from the Plaza and is across from the Cultural Center de Mesilla, home base of the Border Book Festival.
The theme explores varied visions of México - country of history, tradition, culture, food, language and beauty--a people loving and generous, hardworking and spirit-filled. You do not have to be Mexican, Mexican-American, or Latino to love México and its people. The exhibition is a celebratory look at what México means to you, no matter what your background. Is it the image of your grandmother\'s radiant face, two old men sitting on a park bench eating raspas/snow cones, the architectural wonder of a Mayan pyramid or the glory of a sunset in Mesilla, New Mexico, once part of México? What is your beloved México?
The exhibit is open to photographers of all ages and backgrounds. There is no entry fee for young people up to age 15. For photographers 15 and above there is an entry fee of $15. Limit two photos per entry. There will be cash prizes as well as Art for Art, art prizes of Mexican contemporary and folk art.
Maximum size photo size is 16\" X 20\". Both black and white and color photos are acceptable. All photos must be ready to hang. Deadline for entries is Friday, September 9. All art should be brought to the Cultural Center de Mesilla, 2231 Calle de Parian. The Center is located a block and a half west of the Plaza, next to the Post Office.
The Annual Mesilla 16th of September fiesta will be held Saturday and Sunday, September 17 and 18 on the Mesilla Plaza.
