Select the country and object's type Kiowa Gordon, Twilight “Werewolf,” Visits With Fans At Grand Canyon West

Kiowa Gordon, a Hualapai Tribal member and part of the Twilight series’ “Wolf Pack,” was welcomed by fans and fellow tribal members at Grand Canyon West last week. Gordon is an active part of the Hualapai community and returned to his native land to share his Hualapai heritage with fans, just feet from the rim of the Grand Canyon. On Thursday (October 25, 2012), he stayed the night at the Hualapai Ranch in the canyon-facing cabins, sat around the campfire with guests, cooked S’mores with the cowboys and told stories about growing up as a Hualapai. Gordon then spent Friday at Eagle Point giving autographs and taking photos with hundreds of eager fans. The visit also included a walk on the Skywalk and a dance performance with the Native American performers at the amphitheater, which can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pda2Mvub3fg&feature=youtu.be .

“The fans were great, I was really happy to see them enjoy the beauty of Grand Canyon West while sampling our culture. It was very fulfilling to receive words of kindness from my fellow tribal members,” said Gordon. “This [Grand Canyon West] is my tribe’s key to a successful future and I want to support it however I can.”

Gordon’s celebrity has grown rapidly since 2009 by playing Embry Call in New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn (part 1 and 2) but he has never lost the connection to his Hualapai roots. Gordon is the seventh of eight children. His mother, Camille Nighthorse, is an active member of the Tribe and also in show business. His grandmother, Mabelene Mahone, resides in Peach Springs, the capital of the Hualapai Nation and headquarters of Hualapai Tourism. Gordon’s great uncle, Weldon Mahone, was one of the elders who believed strongly that tourism was the future of the Tribe. Mahone actually helped grade the land for the project that included the original dirt runway at Grand Canyon West Airport, now one of Arizona’s busiest.
