Bikes, Lights and Ducks: November in the Arkansas Delta and North Central Ozarks

November is a great month to get out and explore the Arkansas Delta!

Grab your wheels and head to the Arkansas Delta for the 4th annual Tour duh Sunken Lands Harvest Bike Ride on Nov. 3. The course starts and ends at the Southern Tenant Farmers Museum in Tyronza. Along the way, riders will stop in Dyess, boyhood home of the legendary Johnny Cash; the house featured in John Grisham’s “A Painted House;” and the Marked Tree Delta Area Museum. The course winds along the Arkansas Delta and includes sites such as old churches, historic cemeteries, farmsteads and farmland. The entry fee is $25. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the Arkansas Delta during the 6th annual Tour Da` Delta bike race on Nov. 10 in Helena-West Helena. The ride takes participants through historic downtown Helena, alongside the Mississippi River, through the St. Francis National Forest and along Crowley’s Ridge. Stuttgart is known as the “Rice and Duck Capital of the World,” so it’s the perfect spot to host the 77th annual World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest and Wings Over the Prairie Festival, as well as the World Championship Duck Gumbo Cook-off. The festival brings thousand of sportsmen to the town each November. In addition to the world-class calling competitions, the event features a carnival, sporting goods and collectibles shows, arts and crafts and a variety of exhibits. Blytheville’s Arkansas Aeroplex is the site of the 18th annual Lights of the Delta from Nov. 19 through Dec. 27. With more than six million twinkling bulbs and 45 major motion displays on 40 acres, Lights of the Delta is one of the largest lighting festivals in the mid-south. Hayrides are available each night. Music, pictures with Santa and a live nativity scene are presented on select nights throughout the festival. Admission starts at $10 per vehicle. The 16th annual Enchanted Land of Lights and Legends in Pine Bluff “lights up” for the holiday season this year from Nov. 20 to Dec. 31. Located within the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Regional Park, the Enchanted Land of Lights and Legends features more than 200 lighted vignettes, many of which are animated. The award-winning event is one of Arkansas’s largest drive-thru holiday light displays. Admission is free but donations are accepted. Ring in the holiday season in West Memphis as the town lights up Worthington Park for \"It\'s a Wonderful Life in West Memphis\" on Nov. 20. Watch as Santa flips the switch to light up the trees, the water tower, and the bridge located inside the park, all adorned with thousands of beautiful lights. The focal point is always the 45-foot tree in the center of the park. From Nov. 23 through Dec.15, horse-drawn carriage rides are offered each Friday and Saturday evening in the park area and the adjoining neighborhood, where private homes are decorated for the holiday season. Listen to Christmas carols, roast s’mores, and sip on complimentary hot chocolate and cider. Reservations are suggested for the carriage rides.
