Plenty of Scary Opportunities for All Ages in Little Rock during October

The ghosts, ghouls and goblins of October are going to be very busy in Little Rock. Spooky, scary, and fun events for every fright level take place during the month.

The very popular annual Tales of the Crypt leads off the list on Tuesday, Oct. 9. Two tours are given, a \"north\" and a \"south\" and each one lasts approximately one hour. They both feature several different historic Arkansas figures, who are buried at Mount Holly Cemetery, where the event takes place. There is no charge for the tours which begin every five minutes at the front gate, located at 10th and Broadway in downtown Little Rock. The ghosts, portrayed by Little Rock Parkview drama students in full costume, will visit from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Phone 501-447-2362 for additional information.

One of the more frightening venues is the Haunted Cathedral, which is Oct. 12-31 this year. Sponsored by EMOBA, Museum of Black Arkansans & Performing Arts, the 19th annual excursion into scare land is not for the faint of heart. The Gothic structure features spirits, monsters and other things that go bump in the night. Admission is $10 opening weekend with a State Fair admission ticket stub, $15 from Oct. 17-30, and $20 on All Hallows Eve (Oct. 31). Proceeds benefit the museum. One of the most popular and longest-running Halloween events in the Capital City is the family friendly Boo at the Zoo. Dates for 21st annual edition this year are Oct. 19-21 and 26-31 and hours are 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Famous for its safe environment trick-or-treating, Boo includes a hay maze, carnival rides, fair food and other concessions and treat stations. Other activities include the haunted train, a haunted house for older kids, a costume contest, Ghost Roast s’mores area and Frankenstein\'s Dance Party. The entry cost is $7 per person, $15 for an all-inclusive armband, with $1 off for Little Rock Zoo members or advance purchase. Children under the age of one are admitted for no charge. Eight Little Rock museums plus historic Curran Hall Visitors Center are all hosting the Big Boo!seum Bash on Oct. 25. Those taking part from 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m. include the Historic Arkansas Museum, the Museum of Discovery, Central High School National Historic Site, Old State House Museum, Clinton Presidential Library, MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, and Mosaic Templars Cultural Center. Scheduled events include story-telling sessions, trick-or-treating and games. Visitors can pick-up a game card at any of the locations to be eligible for prize drawings. Free parking is available at each location. Be sure to wear your favorite costume.
