MIAMI SPICE RESTAURANT PROGRAM STARTS AUGUST 1: The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) is proud to present 11th Annual Miami Spice Restaurant Program. Organized by the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB), presented by American Express and sponsored by Stella Artois and BACARDI® Rum, South Florida’s wildly-anticipated summer culinary celebration, Miami Spice Restaurant Program is set to run from August 1 through September 30, 2012 with a record-breaking 171 participating restaurants (to date). MIA’S NEW INTERNATIONAL ARRIVALS FACILITY OPENS: Beginning July 31, 2012, international passengers flying Miami International Airport hub carrier American Airlines and all other airlines in concourses D, E and F will be welcomed to the U.S. by a new three-level, 400,000-square-foot international arrivals facility twice the size of the existing Concourse E facility. The dazzling new area is located in the middle of North Terminal and is adjacent to the Concourse D skytrain, for quick access from any of the 47 gates in North Terminal within four minutes. Upon arrival at the new facility, international travelers will be greeted by a passport control area featuring 72 lanes that can process 2,000 passengers per hour - twice the capacity of Concourse E\'s 36 lanes. North Terminal\'s new international arrivals facility opens at a time when visitors to Miami-Dade County are at record-breaking numbers. MIA is now the top U.S. airport for international flights, with nearly 1,300 weekly flights serving 85 international destinations. With American Airlines and American Eagle combining to handle nearly 70 percent of MIA\'s passengers, and with 95 percent of Miami-Dade County\'s visitors arriving through MIA, the new North Terminal facility will soon be the County\'s main front door to the world. RARE WHITE LION AND WHITE TIGERS ARRIVE AT JUNGLE ISLAND: Jungle Island has created its largest and most exciting exhibit yet featuring a white lion, two royal white tigers and two snow tigers! These rare and breathtaking creatures have a brand, new state-of-the-art home in the Jungle. The cats’ new home features similar elements to the park’s existing Tiger/Liger exhibit. Visitors will be able to walk right up to the glass and get an up-close view of these one-of-a-kind animals. The new cats join the Jungle’s already diverse animal family which includes some of the world’s most incredible animals including a set of orangutan twins, a liger and a cassowary. Jungle Island, Miami\'s #1 Family Attraction, is located in the heart of the city between Downtown Miami and South Beach. Building upon the rich tradition Parrot Jungle began in 1936, today’s Jungle Island is home to the world\'s rarest and most incredible animals. Guests participate in hands-on interactions with fascinating animals, marvel at the engaging animal shows and presentations, and are amazed by the park\'s breathtaking landscapes and vistas. METRORAIL EXTENDS SYSTEM TO MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT: For the first time since it opened in 1984, Metrorail has added a new rail line that will provide easy access to Miami International Airport (MIA). On Saturday, July 28, 2012, Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) officially opened its 23rd Metrorail station – the new Miami International Airport (MIA) Station. Trains serving Metrorail’s new Orange Line will take passengers to all stations between Dadeland South and Earlington Heights, continuing west towards the new MIA Station. The 2.4-mile Metrorail extension to MIA is considered the centerpiece of the People’s Transportation Plan (PTP). Metrorail’s new service will make it possible for millions of Miami-Dade County residents, visitors and airport employees to have a reliable and seamless Metrorail connection to and from the airport’s MIA Mover, which will take transit riders directly into the airport. It will also provide a boost to the local economy by creating jobs and facilitating work-related travel, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve travel time by taking vehicles off our roadways. The new MIA Station is a multilevel structure that will provide passengers with a central transfer point to Metrobus and later to Tri-Rail, Amtrak, Greyhound, tour buses and other modes of transportation via the Miami Central Station, which is currently under construction. For more information on the Orange Line and new MIA Metrorail station, visit www.miamidade.gov/transit.
