Howling Coyote Coffeehouse & Open Mic

A staple of the downtown ArtRamble since February of 2006, the Howling Coyote started out as a jam session for local musicians and quickly grew into a showcase featuring some of finest talent Las Cruces has to offer. The monthly event now makes the Rio Grande Theatre its home and continues to feature primarily acoustic musicians, singers and songwriters with family-appropriate material. Showtime is 7pm. The Lady Of White Sands

The Pan American Dance Institute in association with New Mexico State University Dance Program presents The Lady of White Sands, an original ballet in two acts based on the legend of Pavla Blanca. The score and libretto were written by Alamogordo resident JD Droddy. Performers include dancers from NMSU, UTEP, Las Cruces and El Paso private studios. Every Other Tuesday: East Mesa

A trio of \"maturing\" musicians whose individual talents and vocal styles blend to produce unique harmonies and musical interpretations, Michael Pritchard, Mark Sukontarak and Mark Courtney bring a combination of energetic guitar, accomplished bass fiddle, flute, high lonesome tenor, compelling bass and driving baritone to produce a unique program of traditional, folk, country, blues, cowboy and Celtic music. Film Las Cruces

The Rio Grande Theatre and the City of Las Cruces Film Liaison present a monthly film forum on the second Wednesday of each month, in which trailers for locally made films are screened alongside short films by student filmmakers, followed by Q&A sessions with the filmmakers and industry news as it pertains to our area. Blood, Sweat & Tears

Ever been curious what it takes to make a movie? \"Blood, Sweat and Tears\" is an evening featuring the work of native filmmaker and NYU Graduate Film student, Aimée Michele Schaefer. The event, \"Blood, Sweat and Tears\" will consist of 4 short films, a feature documentary, Q & A with the director, music and light refreshments. This event is promoted as a fundraiser to support Aimée in her upcoming short film endeavors at NYU\'s prestigious Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Film Program, the Maurice Kanbar School of Film and Television. Showtime is 7pm with doors opening at 6:30pm. Tickets are $15 general admission and $10 for seniors and students with ID. Local balladeer, Chris Baker is an acoustic artist with an eclectic style, playing original works encompassing sounds very similar to Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson and even Johnny Cash. Baker will be performing songs from his new album, \"I Wanna Fly,\" with guest appearances by local musicians who helped him with the project. White Sands International Film Festival

This year, Hollywood returns to the Rio Grande Theatre as part of the White Sands International Film Festival. Emmy Award-winning actor Jeffrey Tambor will present a workshop entitled \"Performing Your Life\" at 10:30am, in which he will explore the art and process of performance with insight into human nature and Tambor\'s professional experience. Later that evening, beginning at 6pm, the WSIFF Awards Gala will be presented, honouring the winners of the Festival alongside those who have contributed to the film industry overall. On Exhibit in the El Paso Electric Gallery

Peter de Vries

The work of multi-medium painter and glass artist Peter de Vries will be showcased in the El Paso Electric Gallery, South of the Rio Grande Theatre lobby, for the month of August, 2012. A well-rounded fine artist whose work has encompassed everything from jewelry and animation to glass carving and painting, de Vries is a self-taught practitioner of all things artistic, currently working in watercolor, oils, acrylics, clayboard engravings, silverleaf engraving and pen & ink, with occasional forays into glasswork. His sandblasted glass sculptures are currently on permanent exhibit in most of the major hotels in Las Vegas, including twelve panels in the High Roller Gambling Rooms of the Rio Hotel, which were showcased on the Discovery Channel. The exhibit will run through the month of August 2012, beginning with an artist reception on August 3, from 5 to 7pm, as part of the Downtown Art Ramble.

Also included that evening will be the Howling Coyote Coffeehouse/Open Mic, beginning at 7pm. On permanent display in the Clute/Muggenburg Gallery are memorabilia and photos from the Rio Grande Theatre\'s long and illustrious reign in downtown Las Cruces.
