New summer exhibitions at the Las Cruces Museum of Art

Join us as the Las Cruces Museum of Art opens three new exhibitions. An artists\' reception will be held on Friday, August 3 during the monthly Ramble from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with musical entertainment provided by the Dan Lambert Trio. The exhibitions close on Saturday, September 8, 2012.

\"What I See, What I Saw\" is an installation piece by artist Marianne McGrath of Austin, Texas. This large installation is comprised of 3,000 hand-formed ceramic roses made from raw clay and preserved in wax. The delicate flowers \"rise on steel rods out of the roofs of plywood house forms.\"

\"Indra\'s Net\" is an installation piece by the Praxis Collective. More than 300 miniature paintings become a larger unit that \". . . provide a glimpse into each of the artist\'s visions.\" Praxis Collective members include Tauna Cole, Robin Wiener Labe, Jacklyn St. Aubyn, Isadora Stowe and Jean Reece Wilkey of Las Cruces, and Jenni Higginbotham of Santa Fe.

\"Draw: Unseen Marks\", the works of Carol Meine, are drawings in charcoal on paper. The artist describes her drawings as being, \"deep, black, indistinct. They are dark, smeary, of simple, essential form.\"

Funded by the City of Las Cruces, the Las Cruces Museum of Art is located at 491 N. Main Street, next to Branigan Cultural Center. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
