Select the country and object's type The Bison: American Icon at Branigan Cultural Center

LAS CRUCES- The Branigan Cultural Center proudly presents The Bison: American Icon, an exhibition that explains and documents the history of these majestic animals. This presentation is organized by the C.M. Russell Museum of Great Falls, Montana and made possible through NEH on the Road, a special initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities and adapted and produced by the Mid-America Arts Alliance. This exhibit opens to the public on Friday, June 22, 2012 and ends on Saturday, August 11, 2012. The opening reception will be Friday, July 6 during the First Friday Ramble from 5 pm to 7 pm.

Please join us in learning about the tumultuous history of the bison in the Americas through objects, interactives, images, and stories with The Bison: American Icon.

Several programs have been planned around the exhibit\'s theme. D.J. Nutima will provide July\'s Centennial Notes lecture - \"Buffalo and the People\" - on Thursday, July 12 at 1pm. Bison Family Day will be Saturday, July 21 from 10am to 3pm. The day will start off with a \"Buffalo Dance\" by Jemez Pueblo at 10am. Following their performance family friendly demonstrations and hands-on activities will be available in the courtyard and inside the museum from 11am to 3pm. On the last day of the exhibit, Dr. Don Pepion, of NMSU, will present the lecture \"Significance of the Buffalo in Plains Indian Culture\" on Saturday, August 11 at 2pm.
