After a fantastic opening weekend, Driftwood Productions first production in its new home at the Rio Grande Theatre, the musical comedy Nunset Boulevard, has been extended to a third weekend. Originally slated to run two weekends, ending on June 17th, the seventh in the Nunsense series by Dan Goggin will extend to include Friday the 22nd at 8pm, Saturday the 23rd at 8pm and Sunday the 24th at 2pm.
\"To tell you the truth, I expected to extend the show for another weekend because the buzz surrounding it was so great before it ever even opened,\" says Rio Grande Theatre Manager, David Salcido. \"We were just waiting to see what our numbers would be like and, quite frankly, they exceeded our expectations. Besides that, audiences have been giving such glowing accolades to both the show itself and to the actresses playing the Little Sisters of Hoboken that is would be a sin not to give them one more weekend to perform.\"
In addition, the role of pinsetter for the Hollywood Bowl-a-rama--which figures so prominently in the staging of this production--will be played by prominent community members throughout the rest of the run. Scheduled to set the pins for future shows will be: Tom Smith, Artistic Director for American Southwest Theatre Company, on Friday, June 15th; Debra Knapp, Department Head of the NMSU Dance Department on Saturday, June 16th; Carrie Hamblen, Executive Director of the Las Cruces Green Chamber on Friday, June 22nd and KC Counts, radio personality and Programming Director for Bravo Mic, on Saturday, June 23rd. Both Sundays are still TBD.
The special retrospective exhibit celebrating over 30 years of productions by the late Art Haggerton, to whom both Driftwood Productions and this Las Cruces premiere of Nunset Boulevard are dedicated, will continue throughout the month of June in the El Paso Electric Gallery, off the lobby of the Rio Grande Theatre.
Performances for Nunset Boulevard will continue June 15th, 16th, 17th, 22nd, 23rd and 24th. Showtimes are 8pm on Fridays & Saturdays, 2pm on Sundays. The Rio Grande Theatre is located at 211 N. Downtown Mall, in Las Cruces. For more information or to reserve tickets, visit www.RioGrandeTheatre.com or call (575) 523-6403.
