Southern New Mexico Pride Debuts its Very First Pride Drag Pageant April 14, 2012

The Southern New Mexico Pride Board, which consists of representatives from the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered community and its allies, will launch its very first drag pageant in Las Cruces to coincide with this year\'s Pride Festival weekend in June 2012. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14th 2012 at the Rio Grande Theatre. A reception at GreenWorks, catered by High Desert Brewery and Amaro Winery will immediately follow the pageant.

Hosted by Albuquerque drag legend LaRhya Daniels, contestants will compete for the crowned title of Ms. and Mr. Las Cruces Pride and will go on to represent Southern New Mexico Pride at other Pride festivals around the state. Additional performances by our host and judges will energize the stage for a night of entertainment in Las Cruces unlike any other! Individuals interested in competing in the pageant should contact Lauren Goldstein at poet@nmsu.edu. Entry fee is $20, cash or check payable to Southern New Mexico Pride Board.

The Southern New Mexico Pride Board is a year-round, volunteer-run organization, working in conjunction with local community groups and vendors, to create the annual Pride event in mid-June of every year at Pioneer Women\'s Park in Las Cruces. The day includes a walking parade through the Farmer\'s Market leading to a festival celebration that includes entertainment, speakers, dancing and vendors. In 2006, Las Cruces Pride changed its name to Southern NM Pride to represent more communities. In 2008, Southern NM Pride was honored by Albuquerque Pride with its Honored Dignitary-Emerging Leader award.
