Select the country and object's type Las Cruces Named a Top 10 Sunny City to Retire by AARP

The sunny and mild weather of Las Cruces has gained the attention of the AARP as one of the Top 10 Great Sunny Places to Retire.

The AARP announced that Las Cruces is among the top 10 best places to retire for 2012. With an average of 350 days a year of sunshine, the city lives up to the motto of its new advertising campaign: \"Stay Sunny,\" according to the AARP website.

According to the organization\'s website, the weather was not the only factor in naming Las Cruces one of the best places to retire. Affordability, recreational resources, a population of about 97,000, and a low cost of living also add to the city\'s appeal for retirees.

Additionally, Las Cruces rated high for amenities such as New Mexico State University\'s growing arts and music scene, the restaurants, galleries and shops of the Mesilla Plaza as well as downtown Las Cruces fixtures such as COAS book store and number one rated Las Cruces Farmers and Crafts Market.

This is not the first time Las Cruces has been recognized by the AARP. The city was named one of the best places to retire in 2010, and one of the AARP\'s \"Dream Towns\" to retire in 2006. More information can be found at the AARP website www.aarp.org.
