The Las Cruces Museum of Art continues its \"Speaking of Art\" lecture series on Saturday January 21, 2012 from 2 - 3:00 p.m.

On this, the final day of the NASA | ART exhibition, the Museum of Art will host a presentation by art patron Mireille Dohmen that focuses on the work of her close personal friend Belgian artist Paul Van Hoeydonck and his sculpture entitled \"Fallen Astronaut.\" Van Hoeydonck made the sculpture to commemorate the 14 United States astronauts and Soviet cosmonauts who died prior to 1971. In August 1971, the original statue, along with a plaque listing the names of the lost space travelers, was placed without publicity on the Moon by the Apollo 15 astronauts. The presentation will be followed by a group discussion about artwork that can be found in other astonishing places.

The Smithsonian Community Grant Program, funded by the MetLife Foundation, is a proud sponsor of this program. \"NASA | ART\" is organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) and NASA in cooperation with the Smithsonian\'s National Air and Space Museum. The local presentation is sponsored by the Las Cruces Museum of Natural History and the Las Cruces Museum of Art.

The Las Cruces Museum of Art is located at 491 N. Main Street, next to Branigan Cultural Center. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The Museum is closed Sundays and Mondays. For more information, call (575) 541-2137 or visit the website www.las-cruces.org/museums.
