Select the country and object's type Las Cruces to Host New Mexico Centennial Parade

The New Mexico Centennial will kick off with a weekend of events all across the state, including a parade Saturday at 11 a.m. in downtown Las Cruces.

The parade will start with staging at the Loretto Town Center, then travel north on Church Street, left on the newly opened roundabout, onto Water Street south and back to the staging area. The reviewing stand will be in front of the old Las Cruces City Hall, 200 N. Church St.

Of the four parades listed on the New Mexico Centennial website, ours is the only one in January. The day is forecast to be partly cloudy, and the temperature at the time of the parade should be in the low to mid 50s.

Special thanks go to Dolores Archuleta for vigorously chairing the subcommittee and Bill Hawkins for figuring out how to get somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000 people coalesced into a parade, but the contributions of Jim Vorenberg, David Chavez, Siri McDowell, Garland Courts, Debbie Calderon, Mark Mirabal. and Kevin Renn also deserve a hearty thanks!

Please note that other Centennial Events are occurring in our area over the next few days:

Thursday evening - \"Our Reluctant President, William Howard Taft\" at NM Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum

Friday morning - \"At the Hour of the Signing\" at Farm and Ranch Museum

Friday noon- Centennial Luncheon at Farm and Ranch

Friday evening - Centennial Art Ramble on Main Street

Saturday at 1 p.m. - Centennial Market at the Farmers and Crafts Market (following the parade)

Saturday evening - Centennial Celebration at Amador Hotel

Three significant events are also happening on Statehood Day in Santa Fe: the release of the New Mexico Statehood stamp, a 100th Birthday Celebration in the Capitol Rotunda, and the Grand Centennial Gala at the Santa Fe Convention Center. Those not coming to the Las Cruces events are encouraged to enjoy those in Santa Fe or in other parts of New Mexico.
