Select the country and object's type Nifty Fifties: A Fundraiser for the Rio Grande Theatre

The Doña Ana Arts Council and the Rio Grande Theatre invite you to flashback to the Nifty Fifties, with hot rods, ice cream floats and good old fashioned Rock \'n Roll! On Sunday, January 29, 2012, the Arts Council puts the \"fun\" back in fundraiser with an event for the entire family: a trip down memory lane to a simpler, more wholesome time, when Rock \'n Roll was king, soda shops were the hangout of choice and the quickest way to win a gal\'s heart was to take her for a spin in a tricked out roadster.

The festivities begin at 1pm, as hot rods line Main Street for an automotive blast from the past, courtesy of the People\'s Recording Company and the locally-produced feature film Desert Demonz. Also on tap will be a 50s Fashion Show and photo ops with Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Elvis. Then, at 2pm, the historic Rio Grande Theatre will kick off a presentation by Master of Ceremonies, Dr. Jim Shearer, and a concert by retro rockers Remember Then, a seven piece ensemble specializing in the top favorites of the era, with powerful vocal harmonies, full instrumentation and good, old fashioned Rock \'n Roll magic. The public is invited to come dressed in their favorite 50s apparel and join the fashion show.

The Rio Grande Theatre is located at 211 N. Main Street, in Las Cruces. Nifty Fifties will kick off at 1pm with food and fun, outside the theatre. Showtime for Remember Then is 2pm; doors open at 1:30pm. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Arts Council offices, via the website at or at the door on the day of show. All proceeds go toward continued renovations of the Rio Grande Theatre. Call (575) 523-6403 for more information.
