Howling Coyote Coffeehouse & Open Mic

A staple of the downtown ArtRamble since February of 2006, the Howling Coyote started out as a jam session for local musicians and quickly grew into a showcase featuring some of finest talent Las Cruces has to offer. The monthly event now makes the Rio Grande Theatre its home and continues to feature primarily acoustic musicians, singers and songwriters with family-appropriate material. Showtime is 7pm. Centennial Cinema: Made In New Mexico

As part of the weekend-long Centennial Celebration, professional Film Historian Jeff Berg, who also sits on the board of the Mesilla Valley Film Society and is a frequent freelance writer for several publications in the area, will present portions of his critically acclaimed Made In New Mexico film series, featuring clips and fascinating narratives concerning the history of New Mexico filmmaking from 1898 onward. Showtimes are 1pm (Westerns, Chapter 4) and 3pm (The Good, The Bad And The Curious). Admission is $5 and proceeds go toward continued renovation of the Rio Grande Theatre. Film Las Cruces

The Rio Grande Theatre and the City of Las Cruces Film Liaison present a monthly film forum on the second Wednesday of each month, in which trailers for locally made films are screened alongside short films by student filmmakers, followed by Q&A sessions with the filmmakers and industry news as it pertains to our area. Le Chat Lunatique

Playing a combination of Gypsy Swing, Western Swing and whatever else they damn well please, Le Chat Lunatique claims that their forte is Filthy, Mangy Jazz, the result of a mutual love for the great Hot Club of France--a gypsy swing group from 1940s Paris, which included the combined genius of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli--fused with Western Swing and Latin rhythms to create a formidable groove. Every Other Tuesday: Mariachi Real de Chihuahua

Las Cruces\' premiere mariachi is celebrating their 7th anniversary in January! Founded in January of 2005, Mariachi Real is dedicated to preserving and promoting the beautiful culture of the Mesilla Valley through their intense love of the music and the people it represents. Nifty Fifties Benefit

The Dona Ana Arts Council presents a benefit fundraiser for the Rio Grande Theatre. On tap will be classic cars lining Main Street, 50\'s food sold at 50\'s prices, a 50\'s fashion show and a special performance by 50\'s DooWop band, Remember Then. The seven piece group is in their fourth year together and specializes in top favorites of the era, with powerful vocal harmonies and full instrumentation. Outdoor events begin at 1pm, with the concert inside the Rio Grande Theatre taking place at 2pm. Tickets are $10 and proceeds go to benefit the Rio Grande Theatre. Magical Mystery Show

Professional illusionist Garry Carson returns with his crowd-pleasing Las Vegas-style show, as a fundraiser for Jornada Elementary School. From the premiere opening of the MGM Grand Hotel and over 8,000 shows over a 2 ½ year period, to appearances on national and international television shows including Good Morning America, Inside Edition and the Fox special Masters Of Illusion, Gary Carson presents a family friendly show that will have audiences talking for years to come. The Reality Magic Show will be a fundraiser with 100% of proceeds going to Jornada Elementary School PTO. Doors open at 6pm; show time is 6:30pm. On Exhibit in the El Paso Electric Gallery

Bobby Johnson

The fantastic three- and two-dimensional Kachina art of Bobby Johnson will be on display in the El Paso Electric Gallery, South of the Rio Grande Theatre lobby, for the month of January, 2012. Featured in the show will be woodwork Kachina dolls and two-dimensional Kachina-inspired illustrations, all from the fertile imagination of the artist, who uses Native American myth and legend as a springboard for his wholly original creations. The exhibit will run through the month of January 2012, beginning with an artist reception on January 6, from 5 to 7pm, as part of the Downtown Art Ramble.

Also included that evening will be the Howling Coyote Coffeehouse/Open Mic, beginning at 7pm. On permanent display in the Clute/Muggenburg Gallery are memorabilia and photos from the Rio Grande Theatre\'s long and illustrious reign in downtown Las Cruces.
