Select the country and object's type \"Painting the Night Sky\" Workshop at the Las Cruces Museum of Art

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Las Cruces Museum of Art and the Las Cruces Museum of Natural History invite you to join us for one of the many exciting programs offered in conjunction with \"NASA|ART: 50 Years of Exploration,\" now showing at the Las Cruces Museum of Art.

Lyuba and Aleksander Titovets lead \"Painting the Night Sky,\" a three-day workshop that focuses on representation of night-time and softly-lit scenes. The \"Painting the Night Sky\" workshop begins on Thursday, December 1, 2011 and concludes on Saturday, December 3, 2011. The class runs from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Class size is limited to 20 students with a $50 participation fee.

Classically trained in St. Petersburg, Russia, the Titovets left their homeland and moved to El Paso, Texas in 1992. Lyuba paints still-life and figurative works inspired by the traditions of Russian folk art, Russian history and her own reminiscences. Her paintings have won numerous awards and are in collections around the United States including the National Women in the Arts Collection in Washington, DC.

Siberian born artist Aleksander Titovets received his Masters in Fine Arts from St. Petersburg University. His classical art skills reflect the Russian School of Oil Painting, a style that combines a powerful realistic involvement with the soft, lyrical looseness of impressionism. His work is included in public and private collections worldwide. In 2007, Aleksander was chosen to paint former First Lady Laura Bush\'s portrait, now hanging in the National Gallery in Washington, D.C.

The Smithsonian Community Grant Program, funded by the MetLife Foundation, is a proud sponsor of this program. \"NASA | ART\" is organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) and NASA in cooperation with the Smithsonian\'s National Air and Space Museum. The local presentation is sponsored by the Las Cruces Museum of Natural History and the Las Cruces Museum of Art.

The Las Cruces Museum of Art is located at 491 N. Main Street, next to Branigan Cultural Center. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The Museum is closed Sundays and Mondays. For more information, call (575) 541-2137 or visit the website www.las-cruces.org/museums.
