REST UP FOR A SLEEPLESS NIGHT OF CULTURE SATURDAY IN MIAMI BEACH: High season in Miami Beach now begins in November with an all-nighter. Sleepless Night, a citywide celebration of art, music and dance, traditionally runs from sundown to dawn on the night of the autumnal time change. This year that falls on Nov. 5. The idea began in Paris in 1984 - with Nuit Blanche, or White Night. Internationally appealing singers, dancers and performance artists perform alongside award-winning local favorites such as the Florida Grand Opera, the Miami City Ballet and the Miami Symphony Orchestra. For this one night the city is divided into four cultural zones, which encompass 80 venues. This year\'s schedule includes Barcelona-based Sarruga, a street theater group; Brazil\'s Livio Tragtenberg, who will present \"The Cabinet of Dr. Strange,\" a \"composer\" in the form of an extinct animal; \"The Carpetbag Brigade,\" a group from San Francisco that utilizes acrobatic stilts, physical theater, modern dance and circus arts; and \"Project Bandaloop,\" an aerial dance troupe, which will perform its new work \"Bound (less),\" using the city\'s new Frank Gehry-designed New World Center. All of the cultural performances are free. Museums waive their admission fees. Luxury bus coaches transport people from place to place, with onboard entertainment and films shown on the vehicles as well. Finally, those who stay up all night will be treated to breakfast on the beach as the sun comes up. Over 100,000 people will enjoy free admission to theaters, museums, indoor and outdoor art, music, dance, theater, film, video, fashion, acrobatics, and poetry. Last year, Sleepless Night attracted 130,000 people, with an estimated 27,000 coming from outside the area. www.sleeplessnight.org

NYC MEETS MIAMI BEACH AS NEW YORK RESTAURATEURS BRING “THE DUTCH” TO THE W SOUTH BEACH HOTEL & RESIDENCES: New York restaurateurs Chef Andrew Carmellini, Josh Pickard and Luke Ostrom will bring their American restaurant The Dutch and its roots-inspired cuisine to the W South Beach Hotel & Residences, opening just in time for Art Basel. For this project, they have partnered with Karim Masri and Nicola Siervo who also own and operate The Wall, W South Beach’s nightlife destination, Wet and W Living Room Bar. To create interiors for the much-anticipated new restaurant, Meyer Davis Studio (Locanda Verde) completely gutted and transformed the previously dark space into a hip, light, airy eatery where NYC meets Miami Beach. Reflecting Chef Andrew Carmellini’s roots-inspired American cuisine, every material reflects honesty; from the natural light oak floors to the white brick walls, zinc bar top, greyed driftwood beams, framed photographs of Florida ephemera and accents, all lighten and color the space with cultural references. The terrace area facing the lush W grove is open to the ocean breezes and a closed off service entry ensures guest’s privacy and a door to the adjacent grove area provides a sense of wonderment. The Dutch will be located inside the W South Beach Hotel & Residences, Miami Beach. www.TheDutchMiami.com
