Select the country and object's type Hornung, Arterburn, Querry AND Kurtz to Display In the Rio Grande Theatre Gallery This November

Las Cruces, N.M. - The diverse works of four very different artists will be on display in the El Paso Electric Gallery, South of the Rio Grande Theatre lobby, for the month of November, 2011. Jeweler Steve Hornung, painter Michelle Arterburn, photographer Elaine Querry and weaver Jessica Kurtz will share the gallery space, providing a wide assortment of arts, from the visual to the tactile, to choose from. The exhibit will run through the month of November 2011, beginning with an artist reception on November 4, from 5 to 7pm, as part of the Downtown Art Ramble.

Steve Hornung, who organized this exhibit, is a fine art jeweler who works primarily in titanium, thinking of the results as \"small sculptures with a very important component: color.\" Taking his fascination with the properties of titanium, which allows colors to be \"grown\" on the surface without any pigments, and combining that with an interest in chainmail and woven wire jewelry, the results are light-weight, vibrant, one-of-a-kind designs.

A native of Denver, Colorado with a Civil Engineering degree, Michelle Arterburn took a lifelong love for art and parlayed it into a full-time career as an artist eleven years ago. Since that time, she has won numerous awards and finds her studio time split between watercolor painting, designing porcelain/stoneware jewelry and photography. Her work is often displayed in group shows, such as the New Mexico Potters and Clay Artists, the New Mexico Watercolor Society and the Potter\'s Guild of Las Cruces.

Elaine Querry has been a working photographer for over 30 years, first as a photojournalist and, for the past 20 years, as a fine art photographer. Preferring to be challenged by her work she claims she \"never knows what might happen.\" Her current photographic process includes traditional black and white, cyanotypes and emulsion transfers, but she also hand paints some of her black and white images. Formerly a Las Cruces resident, Elaine now makes her home in northern New Mexico.

Jessica Kurtz is an artist of the loom, who took up weaving ten years ago. Her favorite yarns to work with are rayon and rayon chenille, \"because of their luxurious feel and drape.\" Jessica makes use of novelty yarn for its texture, metallic yarn for its sparkle and beads to embellish each piece. The result has taught her greater patience and led her to be more aware of colors, shapes and patterns around her, particularly in the natural world.

The exhibit in the El Paso Electric Gallery will run through the month of November 2011, beginning with an artist reception on November 4, from 5 to 7pm, as part of the Downtown Art Ramble. Also included that evening will be the regular Literary Open Mic in the Rio Grande Theatre auditorium, from 5:30 to 7pm, followed by the Howling Coyote Coffeehouse & Open Mic, directly afterwards. On permanent display in the Clute/Muggenburg Gallery are memorabilia and photos from the Rio Grande Theatre\'s long and illustrious reign in downtown Las Cruces.

The Rio Grande Theatre galleries, located in the lobby of the historic Rio Grande Theatre at 211 N. Main in Las Cruces, are open Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm. For more information, contact the DAAC office at (575) 523-6403.
